And just like that, it’s family photo season! Where the heck has 2020 gone? I feel like just yesterday was April and there was still snow on the ground and now it’s almost time for the white stuff to make its return. Meet the Lewis Family and Mama Karuna Lewis’ parents and sister and brother-in-law. The little one, Miss Audrey, had her newborn photos with us. You may remember her as the bright-eyed bundle in sage green with the teddy bear that won us an international award earlier this year.
Photographing children during a time of COVID-19 has proven quite difficult with the new photography studio mask mandate regulations. Little ones have a hard time interacting with my face when they can’t see me and when they see me smile it helps make them smile. I also have to be such a long distance away so that also makes it difficult to interact, nor can I get them to smile with my handheld tickler that I generally use on kiddos. So to help combat this, I have been wearing my mask while in close range and then using my telephoto lens to shoot from afar. This does go against policy but what does one do? The mandate also states that I must wear a shield along with my mask but there is no way to be able to see through my camera viewfinder if I wore a shield. Then there is the part in the mandate that states that clients can only be without a mask for 15 minutes and then they must put it back on. So does that mean that you put it on and then can just take it back off again?
We are doing our best to make sure you stay safe and comfortable during your session while still being able to capture 2020 memories. You can find out more about what we are doing to help prevent the spread of Covid on our COVID-19 policy page. There is still time to book a family session for this fall but we book up extra early this time of year so contact us soon to reserve your spot!
Also, funny story. TK in the picture below started out the session by telling me that no one can make him smile in photos and that he hates taking them (like a lot of guys do) and so I said… challenge excepted! You really don’t have to treat kids and adults much differently. Act like a total goofy idiot and you can generally get pretty much anyone to smile!
