I love this old wood crate that I found at an antique store in St. Peter, MN last month. Dad is big into photography so it was great having him there as my helper. When I get little boys in the studio, I often learn about the family’s love of sports. Check out the super cute knit hockey skates that Mom and Dad bought for this little guy. ♥  beautiful newborn boy studio photographyNewborn baby frog poseNewborn baby wearing skates  breaker

Nothing is more heart warming than when parents come back to see me to photograph the newborn photos of baby #2. This little man is adorable Zander. We had a lot of fun and he was such a good little guy for me. It was also the first time in a very long time where I walked away from a long newborn session of a naked baby where I stayed clean! For this session, I tried out my new wood style rubber floor by Baby Dream Backdrops. I love how portable it is and I think it gave the photos a great texture. I’ll be exited to use it again in the future.

Brayden: {2 Year Session}

My little buddy Brayden is already 2 years old! I can’t believe it! He is growing up to be so handsome. He is a spitting image of both of his parents, the lucky guy. What I can’t get over is that he is going to pass them on height in about 5 more seconds. What […]

What I can’t get over is that he is going to pass them on height in about 5 more seconds. What a tall guy! Well two year photos is always a work out… for me and the parents. Right Mandy and Brent? Especially to pull out all those smiles. But, we got em. I just love that they brought his red trike. Not only did it add color to the photos and keep him entertained but it also preserved fantastic memories of a toy that is very dear to him. Here are some fun photos from our session together:

Oh my gosh! I can’t believe my little Tristan Mikko that I have been photographing since he was only a few days old is already a year old. He is still cute as ever with that melt your heart smile and bright blue eyes. I am really going to miss getting to play with him every 3 months. 1 year sessions are always so much fun and creative. First we used my favorite antique rocking horse. I found this horse at an antique show a few years ago that I go to every year. Each year I seem to find one or two more of my new favorite items for the studio. Then mom showed up with some fun stuff too! I’ve never gotten to photograph a little chef before. He had so much fun playing in the flour that it got a little tricky trying to get him to look at the camera. The photos turned out pretty cute though. He can now crawl away really fast so a lot of nice posed portraits at this age is pretty rare. Mom and I got a pretty good work out today! Tristan loves singing the song Patty Cake Patty Cake Bakers Man so we sang it about 50 times today while I jumped up and down and blew lots of bubbles. All in all, I think we got some cute shots. Three more months and we will be doing his one year session. Those are always a lot of fun. I can’t wait to see how they turn out.

This winter I had the honor of photographing beautiful baby girl Emmie Lorah. She was just perfect, pink, and Daddy’s little girl. I have a love for hanging those little ones from the tree branches and for little Emmie I purchased and comfy new wrap for her to lay in. The branch is from from a birch tree that I cut down from out on the woods and drilled holes in to fit the tops of my light stands. All in all, I think it turned out pretty darn cute.

Newborns are one of my favorite subjects. The trick to perfect newborn photos it to get the little ones in the studio when they are under 2 weeks old. The younger they are the more creative the posing can be. Sometimes mom doesn’t quite feel ready to leave the house yet in this time. That’s ok. Just let me know and I can bring my studio setup to you.

And I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again… accidents are going to happen. Little ones are going to have something come out of them from some angle at least a few time during the session. Don’t worry, I’ll be prepared and try not to feel bad. We got this cute pink shot above right before Emmie decided to water herself, the blanket, the floor, oh… and Dad. 🙂newborn baby girl st paul mn

 6 month old baby photography in Saint Paul

I can never believe how quickly these little ones grow up! I have already photographed Tristan’s newborn and 3 month photos and this week we did his 6 month session. It is always so much fun to see how much babies have changed in such a short amount of time. Next to newborn sessions, 6 months are my favorite. So, if you didn’t do a newborn session I would recommend waiting until this time. They have so much personality and are starting to become more independent so they don’t have to be in your arms the entire time. The best time to schedule your session is once your baby has learned to sit up by themselves. They will enjoy having their photo taken so much more.

6 month baby boy

Tristan was a very happy guy today with lots of smiles and mom sure helped bring those out. At this age their attention doesn’t last too long so we don’t usually get too much time to take pictures. We got so many amazing shots in a very short amount of time! I don’t know how they will pick their favorites.

I was very excited to use this adorable new sock monkey hat that I had purchased from Etsy recently. I think Tristan looked so sweet in it. Etsy is my favorite stop for prop shopping.

6 month baby boy wearing sock monkey hatThis session was done soon after Christmas time so Mom and Dad wanted to remember babies first Christmas. Tristan wore this adorable red outfit and was so good as we snapped a few tummy time photos.

If time goes by this fast for me as a photographer watching these children grow up, I can’t even imagine what it is like for the parents! I have been photographing Daevon since he was 2 months old. He has grown from an adorable baby into a handsome little man who has sooo much energy. I wish he could share some with the rest of us! Today we went out to Como Park to take some photos. 3 years is so much more delightful to photograph that 2 years because they finally understand the concept of bribery 🙂 Today’s bribery was gummy worms and it only took one time for Daevon to understand that smiles earned WORMS! Sure… this only works for so long, but it worked for long enough. Look at his dashing smiles. What a good looking kid he is. Oh next year seems so far away but I bet it will sneak up on us fast once again just like it always does. Happy Birthday sweet boy!

Ok… well Brayden wasn’t too thrilled having his photo taken so we tried really hard to have a ton of fun and I think we got some really great photos! Mom and Dad did a super job at making Brayden smile. Sometimes it can be hard to photograph children when they recognize and for an unknown reason just simply do not like seeing a camera around. This can sometimes become a better opportunity to try to focus more on candid photos so that the session is not a loss. Sometimes those photos can capture the true personality of the child which can be cherished memories. I can’t WAIT to watch you grow up Brayden!

Welcome to the world beautiful baby boy! Tristan is the son of my friend’s Simona and Jory. So, Simona walks in the studio and says “so what do you have planned for Tristan today?” And I tell her… “Well I cut down a tree at my parents this week and I’m going to hang your baby from it. Let’s do this!” Luckily it turned out pretty precious. He fit so snug in the old laundry basket too. So cute! Newborns are my favorite to shoot and I feel so blessed that they have only been in this world for a few short days and then I get to spend time capturing their beautiful little faces. I do love my job!
